Welcome to ...

Electric Chili is all about electronics, personal finance, life, hybrid vehicles, and of course chili. Why is your blog about so many things? Well, I used to have several blogs and I found I couldn't keep up with all of them. The maintenance began to take the fun out of it. So now I'm putting everything right here!

Winpatrol

I thought I’d share this one since I’ve been using it for the last six months.  It’s Winpatrol.  It keeps you system tray free from clutter.   You know, the programs that insist on running when you start up you computer.   I haven’t tried this one yet but it has a feature called Delayed Start.  This feature will allow windoes to load the essential stuff and then load the rest at a time you specify later.  This will allow windows to get up to speed quickly and get you on your way instead of waiting for all the features that you probably don’t need right away.

Disk Encryption Software

I use my USB drive for tansporting files around and keeping my personal stuff separate from my work stuff.  I used to be worried about losing the drive and someone being able to access all my personal files.  Not any more!  I discovered a program that will encrypt the drive so that nobody else can read it.  The bonus is that is totally free.  Check it out here http://www.truecrypt.org/

Free Photoshop!

Today Adobe is offering the beta of it’s online version of Photoshop called Photoshop Express.  Apparently it’s a lite version of photoshop but has many of the basic tools that most people need like cropping, resizing, and removing red eye.

Photoshop is an awesome tool that I own so I won’t be using the online version but I certainly recommend those that don’t have it to check it out.

Home Inventory Software

I think for 2008, one of my goals is to do a thorough job inventoring the home.  I’ve talked with people that didn’t do this and ended up with major problems trying to recover a loss.  I haven’t tried this softward yet but I’ve heard from others that its very easy to use.  Here’s the link…
